Thursday, searchers in the West Virginia panhandle recovered probable human remains that may be related to a lady who was reported missing more than a month earlier.
The remains have been sent to Kepner Funeral Home in Elm Grove, according to Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard, who told WTOV that a medical examiner will determine whether or not they are human remains and, if so, make an identification.
According to Howard, a report from another agency about a missing person prompted his department to explore the area.
Howard stated, “We received a tip from an out-of-state agency. “At this time, we have found some remains, gathered those remains, and the medical examiner will analyze them to determine whether they are human remains.
“This may be related to a complaint of a missing person, so that’s the development we’ve had. There are unquestionably remains here, and they are being taken for identification.
Gretchen Fleming, a 28-year-old woman last seen leaving the My Way Lounge in Parkersburg, West Virginia, on December 4, may not be the subject of the remains, as suggested by the “out-of-state agency.” However, as CrimeOnline reported earlier this week, Parkersburg police said they were looking for information regarding a black Nissan Rogue that might be related to a guy spotted leaving the pub with Fleming and providing a transport for her.
The car featured a Pittsburgh Penguins plate frame but no license plate. More than 100 miles separate Elm Grove, just outside Wheeling, from Parkersburg, yet only 50 from Pittsburgh and 10 from the Pennsylvania state boundary.
The person who provided Fleming a lift that night from the bar has not yet been officially named by investigators, but they have noted that his descriptions of the event have been contradictory. Police reported that they observed the Rogue heading in his direction. Although not a suspect, he has been referred to as a person of interest in the case. He has had search warrants executed on his property and electronic equipment by investigators.
