In relation to the death of a two-year-old girl from Shotton Colliery, County Durham, England, a second person has been accused.
Dana Carr, 24, is accused with permitting the death of a toddler and a second count of child cruelty.
On January 11, she is scheduled to appear before the Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court. We’ll soon learn whether she’ll be found innocent or sentenced to prison.
Following the initial court hearing pertaining to Maya’s passing, her family gathered at Consett Football Club’s Belle View Stadium for a candlelight vigil.
On this day, more than 100 members of the community gathered to pay tribute to a person they referred to as “one of their own.”
Maya was adored by everyone who knew her, and her mischievous smile in family photos shattered the hearts of both friends and total strangers.
Michael Daymond Was Previously Arrested For The Murder
Michael Daymond of Shotton Colliery was accused of the murder in October 2022. On January 13, the 26-year-old is scheduled to show up in court at Teesside.
In October, the man accused of murdering the toddler in County Durham made his first appearance at crown court.
Daymond, who had a beard and was dressed in a gray sweater, made an appearance via video link from HMP Leeds. During Jolyon Perks’ prosecution, Martin Scarbrough served as his legal counsel.
The alleged offender was placed back in custody with a request to appear in court in January. He will probably now plead guilty to the accusation.
Judge Howard Crowson set the date of the plea and trial preparation hearing for January 13; the date of the provisional trial was set for March 13.
“It is crucial you are candid with your counsel about anything you think might be significant,” the judge advised Daymond.
A 23-year-old woman who was detained in connection with the probe was released while an investigation was ongoing, according to Durham Constabulary.
When officers arrived at the site, Durham Police previously claimed that a police vehicle had been “deliberately destroyed.”
Maya Chappell: An Innocent Soul Lost
On September 28, 2022, a 2-year-old girl named Maya Louise Chappell was discovered in a serious condition at a Shotton Colliery House.
She was discovered by emergency personnel at the location in the County Durham village and was in severe condition.
After being flown to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, the young child passed away two days later.
Soft toys, teddy animals, and balloons were left in front of the Milton Grove House in Shotton Colliery, where Maya was discovered.
Additionally, there were flowers, photos, and notes on the curb. One card read, “RIP May, fly high lovely bay,” and another wrote, “Sleep, tight Princess.”
On Facebook, Maya’s father, James Chappell, praised his “beautiful, brave young girl” who was “too good for this world.”
Because she was too good for this world, James said, “My lovely, brave little girl has gained her wings. As a reward, she is going to play in the stars.” It aches his heart to write this.
“I love you so dearly, Maya Louise Chappell. You are my life, my earth, and my idol. I will always look up to you and adore you with all my heart,” the grieving father continued in his letter. RIP, little girl.
He also said that anyone who wanted to pay their respects online was allowed to do so.
