One of the most horrific and upsetting instances of child abuse in recent memory is the case of Gabriel Fernandez.
Gabriel was abused and tortured by his mother Pearl Fernandez and her partner Isauro Aguirre when he was eight years old.
Gabriel was taken to the hospital in a hurry on May 22, 2013, after paramedics responded to a report about a youngster who wasn’t breathing.
Gabriel was admitted to the hospital, where physicians found he had had a number of wounds. Gabriel was checked by Dr. Alyssa Rake in the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles’ pediatric intensive care unit.
Dr. Rake came to the conclusion that Gabriel was brain dead since he had no response to stimuli and couldn’t breathe on his own.
A BB was lodged in Gabriel’s lung, he had several rib fractures, a damaged head, and numerous scratches, burns, and bruises.
Gabriel was pronounced brain dead by medical professionals at the Children’s Hospital, and two days later, on May 23, 2013, he passed away. According to the official autopsy, Gabriel died as a result of starvation, negligence, and blunt force injuries.
Gabriel Fernandez Case Details
Eight-year-old Gabriel Fernandez spent eight months living with his mother and her boyfriend. Regrettably, he experienced unspeakable abuse at that time.
Physical beatings, being made to consume cat litter, human waste, and rotten food, as well as being burnt with cigarettes, were all part of the systematic abuse. He was pepper sprayed, shot with a BB gun, and had his teeth smashed off with a bat.
And to make matters worse, according to Gabriel’s siblings, his mother and stepfather would laugh while he was being mistreated.
After Gabriel stopped breathing as a result of the abuse, his mother contacted 911 and promptly brought him to the hospital.
He was found on the ground nude and hurt when the first emergency responders arrived. Despite the greatest efforts of the medical staff, Gabriel was pronounced brain dead and died.
On May 23, 2013, Pearl Fernandez and Isauro Aguirre were detained. Isauro Aguirre was detained on suspicion of attempted murder, while Pearl was accused with criminal child endangerment.
After Gabriel died, Fernandez and Aguirre were accused of first-degree murder under extraordinary circumstances involving torture, and the death sentence was sought by the prosecution.
In order to escape the death penalty, Pearl ultimately pled guilty to her charge on February 15, 2018. She received a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
Isauro Aguirre, meanwhile, entered a not-guilty plea to the allegation of first-degree murder with extraordinary torture.
Gabriel Fernandez Siblings And Family
Arnold Contreras and Pearl Fernandez, Gabriel Daniel’s parents, welcomed him into the world in 2005. But, Gabriel’s mother made the decision to give him up three days after his birth.
His uncle Michael Lemos Carranza and his business colleague David received Gabriel. Robert and Sandra Fernandez, Gabriel’s grandparents, were also members of the family.
Gabriel’s grandfather raised concerns about Carranza and Martinez’s same-sex relationship when Gabriel was four years old.
Gabriel was thus taken out of their custody and placed with his grandparents. For three years, he resided with his grandparents, who raised and adored him.
Despite the family’s worries for Gabriel’s welfare, his mother and her boyfriend, Isauro Aguirre, won back custody of him in 2012.
