What Happened ‘Barbara Waite Death’ Ryan Grantham, a former “Riverdale” and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” actor, was given a life sentence for murdering his mother so she wouldn’t have to witness his attempt to assassinate Justin Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada.
Barbara Waite Death
Early this year, Grantham admitted responsibility for killing his mother, Barbara Waite. According to CBC, he was sentenced this week at the B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver.
The incident allegedly took place inside Waite’s Squamish townhouse in March 2020. Grantham acknowledged shooting his mother in the head while she was practicing the piano. He used a GoPro camera to capture the aftermath. During the GroPro recording, the actor also admitted to murdering Waite.
Grantham said he had to murder Waite to keep her from learning about his murderous plan for Trudeau. He stocked his car with “three firearms, ammo, 12 Molotov cocktails, camping gear, and a map with instructions to Rideau Cottage” when his mother passed away, according to People. Trudeau was staying at Rideau Cottage.
However, the intended assassination never took place, and Grantham has not been prosecuted as a result of his remarks.
The court heard that when his mother passed away, Grantham wrapped her with a white sheet and surrounded her with candles.
Despite Grantham’s mental health concerns, Justice Kathleen Ker stated he had enough “saving grace” and a firm grasp of reality to know what he did was unlawful. The defendant underwent mental health treatment while he was incarcerated and waiting to go to trial; he apparently made progress and received praise.
After 14 years in prison, Grantham will be eligible for consideration for release.
