For WWE, the PWA, and the AWF, Charlie Norris was a top draw. Norris began competing in wrestling in 1989. Once his training in Minneapolis was complete, he started working for Eddie Sharkey’s PWA promotion. Norris won the PWA Heavyweight Title and successfully defended it five times just a few months after making his debut.

Norris signed contracts with the National Wrestling Alliance and World Championship Wrestling when he made his professional wrestling debut in 1993. He worked with WCW from August 1993 to January 1994, where he was given a lot of support. On the January 29, 1994 episode of WCW Worldwide, William Regal defeated Norris to win the title of WCW World Television Champion (aka Lord Steven Regal).

After leaving WCW, Norris rejoined his hometown organization, the PWA, where he won the tag team championships twice with Sam Houston and once with Derrek Dukes. He has been actively marketing AWF tournaments both independently and for money since at least 2006.

More About Charlie Norris’s Untimely Death

Charlie, a WCW wrestler who competed throughout that year, has passed away. He was 57. Norris passed away early today, according to a statement issued this afternoon by the Cauliflower Alley Club. On the Red Lake Indian Reservation in Northwestern Minnesota, Norris worked as a personal trainer; his current location and fate are unknown.

Charlie has initiated a lawsuit against World Wrestling Entertainment.
Norris wrestled as Johnny Grey Feather and Thunderblood throughout his time in the WWE. In 1994, he disbanded WCW, and shortly after, he filed a formal lawsuit against the company. He alleged that by making him do inappropriate chores like air hand chops and an Indian dance, senior management had insulted and degraded him.

He claims that Norris was called “Big Chief” and that Greg Gagne, the former president of WCW, demonstrated the dance they wanted Norris to perform in the ring. Norris said that his $800 weekly compensation was really little in comparison to other performances.

Norris also said that while other performers were paid for their travel and costumes, he wasn’t. He said that Ole Anderson’s tenure in that position violated the terms of a contract he signed with WCW. Norris prevailed in court.
