Let find out ‘Child Safe, Suspect Apprehended In Akron Kidnapping’ An Ohio woman is in serious condition after a man reportedly shot her and stole their 4-year-old boy on Tuesday morning.
Police in Akron responded to a report of shots fired soon before 7 p.m. Monday and discovered the unconscious 24-year-old lady with several gunshot wounds. She was sent to the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital.
Child Safe, Suspect Apprehended In Akron Kidnapping
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, witnesses informed detectives that the woman’s 24-year-old ex-boyfriend, Jose Castro, shot her and then left in a car with the toddler. Police stated that they received surveillance footage from a neighboring location and witnessed the occurrence.
Police issued an Amber Alert for the youngster at 9:20 p.m., and he was given up to detectives an hour later, unhurt. The circumstances of the boy’s return were not disclosed by police.
The man was apprehended by Cleveland Police just after midnight. Castro was set for arraignment Tuesday morning on charges of kidnapping and felonious assault, but a bailiff informed the Beacon Journal that he was “uncooperative” and refused to come out of his cell. The arraignment was moved until Wednesday morning.
According to the Beacon Journal, Castro was out on bond following a prior arrest for discharging a revolver into the ground while looking for his ex-girlfriend. On June 13, the ex’s sister reported to authorities that Castro had fired at a 34-year-old guy. The guy told cops that Castro had “harassed [the ex-girlfriend] the previous couple of days due to a break-up” and that he’d been pleading with him to “leave him and his family alone.” Castro claimed he drew a gun and shot into the ground before fleeing in a gray Kia Soul.
Police saw the Soul and attempted to pull it over, but Castro “took off from cops and led them on a motor pursuit.” After speaking with neighbors, they discovered the car was empty and identified Castro. He didn’t have a gun on him when he was apprehended.
Castro was charged with refusal to comply, aggravated threats, narcotics possession, and weapon discharge. On August 4, he pled not guilty and was freed on bail with an order not to contact the victims. He was supposed to have a pretrial hearing on September 9, but it was pushed out until October 13.
It’s unclear whether the ex-girlfriend from the previous case is the same one who is currently in serious condition in the hospital.
