North of Corrigan, Texas, on January 20, a fatal car accident happened on Highway 58.

A passenger in a Nissan Versa being driven by Micah McAfoose was Stephen F. Austin State University freshman student-athlete Graylan Spring. His vehicle struck an 18-wheeler’s trailer.

The collision happened when the 18-wheeler drove left from Plant Road onto the highway and struck the Nissan.

The vehicle struck the trailer and became stuck below it. Spring was transported by air ambulance to a hospital in Conroe while McAfoose was pronounced dead at the spot.

The 18-wheeler’s driver did not suffer any wounds.

The crash is currently being looked into by the Corrigan Police Department. The university community has been greatly saddened by this unfortunate tragedy as they grieve the loss of a former student-athlete and offer their sympathies to the family of the injured student.

Garylan attends Stephen F. Austin University and participates in sports. Spring played football for the Lumberjacks during his first year at the university.

In the year 2022, he finished his studies and received his high school diploma from Vandegrift.

Following the sad event involving Graylan Spring, a recent graduate of the class of 2022 and a two-year letterwinner there, the Vandegrift High School community is in disbelief.

His family, friends, and the school community have all been devastated by the news, and they have been sharing their sorrow on social media sites like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Several GoFundMe accounts have been created by folks close to Spring to help with the medical costs.

In a formal statement, the school also expressed its sorrow and promised to support its student-athletes financially and emotionally during this difficult time.

 

Condolences And Experiences With Garylan Shared On Social Media

McAfoose and Spring were praised by the athletic director, Ryan Ivey, who said that both of them were energetic people with bright futures.

Steve Westbrook, interim president of Stephen F. Austin University, has asked that the school’s flag at the Vista Drive entrance be flown at half-staff on Monday in memory of these two students.

He added that the loss of these two Lumberjacks has devastated the entire campus community.

Spring’s family has asked that money be given to a Stephen F. Austin scholarship fund rather than flowers.

Colby Carthel, the head coach of the Lumberjacks football team, added that Spring was a genuine champion.
