Israeli Army Raids Jenin: A significant clash occurred on Monday in the city of Jenin in the occupied West Bank between Israeli military forces and Palestinian militants. According to authorities, at least three Palestinians were killed in the firefight, including a teenager, and more than two dozen were wounded.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that among the casualties, one of the deceased was a teenager, and several others were injured during the clashes.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that Israeli Air Force attack helicopters engaged in firing from above Jenin to assist in the evacuation of Israeli troops from the city.
Israel Army Radio reported that this was the first instance of Israeli helicopters opening fire during the evacuation of injured soldiers since the end of the Second Intifada, a significant Palestinian uprising that concluded in 2005.
Army Radio confirmed that the wounded Israeli soldiers were successfully evacuated.
The local militant group known as the Jenin Brigade claimed that their fighters had targeted an Israeli helicopter, forcing it to retreat, and also stated that they had immobilized Israeli military vehicles through gunfire and ambushes.
As of 10:45 a.m. local time (3:45 a.m. ET), doctors speaking on Palestine TV indicated that the firefight was still ongoing.
The Palestinian Health Ministry, referring to hospitals in Jenin, identified the deceased Palestinians as Khalid Azam Asa’asa, 21, Qasam Faisal Abu Seriya, 29, and Ahmed Youssef Saqer, a 15-year-old teenager.
According to the ministry, a total of 31 Palestinians were wounded, including a critically injured girl with a head injury.
The IDF and Border Police stated that they were conducting an operation to arrest two wanted suspects in Jenin when a significant exchange of fire erupted. They were attacked with gunfire and explosive devices, and in response, they used live fire, resulting in casualties, the IDF reported.
