Parson said in a statement before the execution that McLaughlin was a dangerous criminal. McLaughlin started his transformation while serving a three-year sentence in prison, too.

Court records show that after their breakup, McLaughlin routinely showed up at Guenther’s 45-year-old suburban St. Louis workplace, sometimes lurking inside. Police accompanied Guenther to her car after work because a restraining order had been imposed on her.

On the evening of November 20, 2003, Guenther’s neighbors alerted the police when she didn’t show up at her house.

Police discovered a blood trail going to her car and a broken knife handle when they got at the office building.

A day later, McLaughlin offered police directions to the spot where the body had been placed in “St. Louis,” close to the Mississippi River. Authorities asserted that she was stabbed during the rape with a steak knife.

In 2006, Amber was found guilty of first-degree murder. When the jury couldn’t reach a consensus on the punishment, a judge gave McLaughlin the death penalty. According to Komp, Missouri and Indiana are the only states where a person may be put to death by a judge.

She was legally executed by lethal injection on January 1, 2023. When McLaughlin was executed on Tuesday, she took a few deep breaths, whispered her final words, and closed her eyes.

McLaughlin was declared dead at 6:51 p.m., according to a written statement from the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Additionally, McLaughlin acknowledged his contrition for his deeds in a prior written statement. I am a loyal and understanding person.

While receiving the lethal pentobarbital injection, she muttered to a spiritual guide standing by her side.

Since the death penalty was abolished in the middle of the 1970s, 1558 people have been put to death, according to the pro-Death Sentence Information Center.

Except for 17, all individuals who were executed were men. No openly transgender prisoner has ever been executed, according to the group. McLaughlin began shifting at Potosi State Prison around three years ago.
