Despite A Hamstring Injury, Dustin Hopkins Kicks The Chargers To An Overtime Victory
For the most of Monday’s game, Dustin Hopkins‘ right hamstring was wrapped with a heat pack.
The Los Angeles Chargers’ kicker was visibly injured and in discomfort. Not to mention, he was hot.
Hopkins’ field goal of 39 yards in overtime gave the Chargers a 19-16 victory over the Denver Broncos.
He experienced a cramp or strain in his hamstring, and it just didn’t seem right, according to a team transcript from Chargers head coach Brandon Staley, who also noted, “You can’t say enough positive things about how he’s holding on.”
Hopkins had a wonderful yet difficult night. Despite hurting himself on his first attempt, he made all five of his kicks, including an extra point and field goals from 37, 31, 35, and 39 yards. “That first extra point I just felt a pop, and it sort of went downhill from there,” Hopkins told ESPN’s Lisa Salters after the game.
