Why Did Dallas Cowboys Sack Kellen Moore?: Kellen Christopher Moore is the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League (NFL). He previously played six seasons in the NFL for the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys.

He was an undrafted free agent signed by the Lions in 2012 and played three seasons with the team.

Moore was hired as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator in 2023 after departing the Cowboys.

Despite not being selected in the 2012 NFL Draft, he was promptly signed by the Detroit Lions.

“I don’t think there will possible be a more motivated quarterback,” Moore stated after being signed by Detroit.

Although several members of the media believed Moore should take over as the Lions’ primary backup for the 2014 season, Lions head coach Jim Caldwell decided Orlovsky would remain in the role.

Moore has been named the Los Angeles Chargers’ offensive coordinator, as had been speculated shortly after he and the Cowboys “part ways” on Sunday night and Monday morning.

Joe Lombardi was fired immediately after Los Angeles’ AFC Wild Card loss to Jacksonville on January 14, and has been replaced by the former Boise State quarterback.

Moore and former Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan reconnected on September 6, 2015, when the Dallas Cowboys signed Moore to their practice squad.

Tony Romo was signed to the active roster on September 23 to replace Brandon Weeden, who had broken his left collarbone.

Kellen was the Cowboys’ backup quarterback for two games until the team acquired Matt Cassel.

On November 10, he was released and re-signed to the practice squad two days later.

Kellen Moore accepted a contract to become the Los Angeles Chargers’ new offensive coordinator, the franchise announced on Monday.

Moore and the Dallas Cowboys made a “mutual choice to part ways” after an end-of-season evaluation process, according to a statement issued less than 24 hours before the move.

Moore will replace Joe Lombardi as offensive coordinator in Los Angeles, who was fired following the team’s 10-7 record and historic collapse against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the wild-card round.

Moore, 33, will take over an offense led by Justin Herbert, who surpassed Andrew Luck as the NFL’s all-time leader in passing yards during his first three seasons.

Moore also gets receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, as well as running back Austin Ekeler, who led the NFL with 18 touchdowns the previous season.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, Moore will transfer from teaching Dak Prescott, who led the league in interception rate (3.8%) this season, to Herbert, who had the NFL’s seventh-lowest interception rate (1.4%).

Coach Brandon Staley revealed at the start of the search for a new offensive coordinator that he would be seeking for leadership and a system similar to those employed by Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams and Kyle Shanahan of the San Francisco 49ers.
