Following Stone’s demise, “Collin’s Law,” a bill that would have made hazing a criminal in Ohio, had a rise in popularity in the Ohio General Assembly. It was formally put into effect on July 6, 2021.

Bowling Green State University and the family of a 20-year-old student, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

Following a fraternity hazing incident, he passed away in 2021, and a $2.9 million settlement was made.

The Dispatch claims that during an off-campus initiation ceremony in March 2021, Stone Foltz drank a liter of bourbon.

While a sophomore at Bowling Green State, he made a pledge to the Pi Alpha Kappa fraternity. Three days later, he passed away from alcohol poisoning.

In June 2022, Cory and Shari Foltz, Foltz’s parents, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Bowling Green State.

They alleged that the school was aware of the hazing activities carried out by Greek organizations on campus but did nothing to stop them.

Other Pi Alpha Kappa members were sentenced to one to six weeks in prison after being accused of Foltz’s death, even though they were found not guilty of the two most serious charges—involuntary manslaughter and reckless homicide.

The punishments for five former fraternity brothers who were convicted of hazing Stone Foltz at Bowling Green State University were given on Thursday by Wood County Common Pleas Judge Joel Kuhlman.

Daylen Dunson, 22, of Cleveland, earlier entered guilty pleas to eight charges of hazing, seven counts of breaking the rule against serving alcohol to minors, and one count of disrupting government operations.

Additionally, he had already pled guilt to three third-degree felonies: tampering with evidence, obstructing justice, and reckless killing.

Dunson presided over the Bowling Green chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha International fraternity (PIKE).

Foltz, a 20-year-old sophomore from Delaware, Ohio, rushed the fraternity in the beginning of 2021.

On March 4, 2021, Foltz participated in a “Big Little Night” initiation event as a requirement of the pledge process, and he drank a liter of Evan Williams bourbon there.

A few days later, he died from fatal alcohol intoxication.

Cory Foltz’s father begged the judge to punish the perpetrators as severely as Ohio law would allow in an emotional address to the court.

In response to Foltz’s passing, Pi Kappa Alpha decided to stop recruiting nationwide for the Spring 2021 semester.

The fraternity also resolved to revoke the Delta Beta Chapter’s charter and expel all of its current members.

 

Criminal Cases On Stone Foltz Case

Charges were brought against eight people after Foltz’s death.

The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity brothers Troy Henricksen and Jacob Krinn were on trial in May 2022.

Krinn was found guilty by a jury of hazing, serving alcohol to a juvenile, and obstructing the course of justice.

Henricksen was found guilty of eight charges of hazing and seven counts of giving alcohol to an underage individual.

In relation to Foltz’s death, the most serious accusations made against the former fraternity brothers were withdrawn.

Krinn and Henricksen received sentences from Judge Joel Kuhlman of the Wood County Common Pleas Court that included a total of 42 days in jail and an additional 28 days of house arrest.

Both guys also got 100 hours of community service and a two-year probationary period. Their prison terms officially began on Wednesday.
