The advocate for disability rights also freely discusses her experiences as a handicapped person. The comedian made a joke about how when she walks onto the stage, people often become afraid. Liz joined ADAPT in May 2008 to raise funds for the group and to criticize presidential candidate John McCain’s hostility to people with disabilities’ right to live in their own homes.

Carr took part in a Newsnight debate about assisted suicide that featured Jeremy Paxman and David Aaronovitch after the BBC screening of Terry Pratchett: Choosing to Die.

She opposed Lord Falconer’s Assisted Dying Bill, saying, “I feel we have so devalued – people with disabilities and ill people – that I don’t think it’s in their best interests to entrench in law the right of physicians to kill particular persons.”

Actress-comedian Liz Carr and her lifelong partner Jo Church made their civil union official in 2010.

Their nuptials was dubbed “A Wheelie Special Wedding” by the comedian. Her father forbade him from using the term “brave” in his remarks during their wedding.
