Accused Serial Rapist Attorney Released On Bail Paid By His Fiancee- A Manhattan attorney charged with a series of rapes in Boston 15 years ago was released on bail on Thursday.
According to court records, Matthew Nilo’s fiancée posted the $500,000 bail after he accepted the court’s conditions, as reported by WCVB.
As reported by CrimeOnline, Nilo, aged 35, entered a plea of not guilty last week to three charges of aggravated rape, two charges of kidnapping, one charge of assault with intent to rape, and one charge of indecent assault and battery.
During his arraignment last week, prosecutors presented their case, stating that they linked Nilo to four assaults in Boston’s Charlestown area in 2007 and 2008 through familial DNA. All four victims reported being threatened, with two of them facing gunpoint threats and one facing a knife threat.
In order to secure his release from jail, Nilo agreed to several conditions, as reported by WCVB. These included surrendering his passport, wearing a GPS monitor, and having no contact with the victims or the areas where the assaults took place.
Lori Pinkham, one of the accusers, expressed her distress and fear upon learning about Nilo’s release. She stated, “I feel sickened and afraid knowing that he is back on the streets, and I also fear that he might try to retaliate against me.”
Nilo, who grew up in Boston, was employed by a cyber insurance firm at the time of his arrest. The firm announced this week that they have suspended him from his position.
