George Prince Sentencing: A man from Florida has been found guilty this week of committing two counts of murder. The victims were a 19-year-old pregnant woman and the unborn child she was carrying. As a result, he has been sentenced to spend the remainder of his life in prison.
The individual, George Prince, aged 30, received his sentence from Judge Mark Borello in Florida State Prison immediately after the verdict. The State Attorney’s Office for the Fourth Judicial Circuit announced the sentencing in a press release.
The crime took place on October 7, 2019, as documented in an arrest report obtained by Law&Crime. Iyana McGraw, the 19-year-old victim, was discovered in her apartment’s dining room with multiple gunshot wounds. She was promptly taken to a hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
At the time of the incident, McGraw was nine months pregnant, and medical professionals were able to perform an emergency C-section successfully. The baby, named Milan McGraw, was born but required immediate transfer to another hospital due to critical condition. Subsequently, Milan was moved to a specialized children’s hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Unfortunately, the child passed away on January 10, 2020, due to complications stemming from the shooting, as stated in the police report.
The trial lasted less than two days, and the jury only deliberated for 15 minutes before finding Prince guilty on two counts of first-degree murder.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the evidence against Prince was overwhelmingly compelling and included a recorded confession. In this confession, the defendant provided detailed information that matched the concurrent investigative efforts surrounding the killings of McGraw and her baby girl, as mentioned in the report.
Detectives from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office recovered both guns used in the shooting, one of which was traced back to Prince. The report also reveals that one of the guns was found in the possession of a co-defendant, Gerod Fields, who later pleaded guilty to his involvement in the crime.
The arrest report states that a witness informed the police that Prince had promised Fields, the second individual with the second gun, a payment of $1,000 for assisting in the shooting at the apartment. However, the witness claimed that Fields never received the promised payment.
Fields has pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder related to his participation in the killings and is currently awaiting sentencing.
Another witness, whose identity remains undisclosed, reported hearing gunshots after finishing watching television on the night of the murder. The witness looked outside and observed an individual known as “Dougie” firing a handgun in the parking lot of the victim’s apartment complex. According to the witness, that individual was George Prince.
Regarding the motive, it appears that illegal drugs played a significant role.
According to the report, two individuals provided information to law enforcement suggesting that George Prince and Miles Hall, McGraw’s boyfriend at the time, were somehow involved in a drug-related dispute.
This feud supposedly escalated when someone fired multiple shots into Prince’s apartment just hours before he set out on a quest for revenge. One witness stated that the defendant attributed the attack on his apartment to Hall. Subsequently, the police confirmed that Prince’s apartment had been targeted earlier that day.
Prosecutors argued that Prince had planned to send Hall a message.
Cellphone evidence was later presented to the police, indicating that Prince was present at or near McGraw’s apartment complex around the time of the shooting. A witness reported that Prince fled his apartment around 7:45 p.m. on the night in question, wearing latex gloves and carrying a firearm. He allegedly told the witness that he needed to “take care of something.”
Ronald McNair, a suspect in a separate case, revealed that Prince and Hall had previously been friends but had a falling out over drugs. After both McNair and Prince were arrested by the ATF on unrelated charges two days later, McNair informed law enforcement that Prince believed Hall was responsible for the attempted attack on his life. McNair claimed that Prince invited him to participate in the retaliatory shooting, stating that Prince was prepared, actively seeking Hall, wearing latex gloves, and armed with a pistol.
However, McNair declined to accompany Prince for the deadly crime, explaining that it was unclear who had initiated the initial shooting.
In response, Prince callously stated, “I don’t care. I kill women and children, too.”
