Tudor Chirila Jr., 77, was detained in Reno, Nevada, according to KRNV, for fatally stabbing Nancy Anderson, 19, in her residence in Honolulu fifty years prior. Police discovered Anderson drenched in blood, with stab wounds to her chest, and found that she had died of a cardiac hemorrhage brought on by the knife wounds.

Anderson’s roommate thought she had committed suicide, but no charges were made, according to KRNV.

In December 2021, there was a breakthrough in the unsolved crime when Chirilia was apparently named as a potential suspect. The former attorney’s local residence was confirmed by Reno police two months later.

The suspect’s son, who resides in California, provided a DNA sample to Honolulu police in March 2022. The DNA was found at the crime site, and investigators found that it belonged to the son of that DNA. According to KRNV, the son also claimed that his parents were residing in Hawaii at the time of Anderson’s murder.

Chirila attempted suicide on September 8, according to KGMB, two days after police took a DNA sample from him. Police in Hawaii discovered on September 12 that Chirila’s DNA matched DNA recovered on a towel close to Anderson’s body. The day after, he was taken into custody in Nevada.

This week, Chirila is expected to make her court appearance. In addition, extradition to Hawaii is anticipated, where he will be charged with second-degree murder in the case of Anderson.
