According to the Daily Mail, the cause of Logan’s death is yet unknown. We may have to wait for further information to learn what caused his death.
The Rugby Football League (RFL) acknowledged the death of the Cumbrian teenager on Wednesday, January 11.
“Everyone affiliated with the England Community Lions Program was grieved to hear about the tragic demise of Logan Holgate,” it said in a heartfelt tribute to the brilliant boy.
Logan was on the Salford U-18 pathway before being selected for the England Community Lions U-19s last year.
With addition to his job in Salford’s development squad, he has been playing for Hensingham. This season, he was supposed to be promoted to the reserve team.
“Everyone at Salford Red Devils is sorry to learn about Logan’s unexpected passing,” Salford Red Devils wrote on Twitter. In this difficult occasion, our thoughts are with his family.”
The wider rugby league community has reacted to the tragic news.
The club Holgate represented at the junior level, Hensingham ARLC, also paid tribute on social media.
“Logan has been with our club since he was little and had played for our open age and U18’s’ this year,” the post said, before offering sympathy to his family and friends.
Likewise, a statement from St Benedict’s RUFC read, “All at St Benedict’s are devastated. Logan was a rising star on the local and national rugby scene at the age of 18.”
Many other clubs, including West Cumbria Masters RLFC, Egremont Rangers, Distington ARL, Wath Brow Hornets, and others, have expressed their condolences.
The Red Devils Hooker Was An Emerging Rugby Star
Logan Holgate had followed in his older brother’s footsteps by making a significant contribution to the sport.
The outstanding hooker followed in the footsteps of elder brother Ellison and younger brother Fletcher by joining the Lions.
Logan first drew attention in 2021, when he made his Lions debut for the U-16s against Wales in Colwyn Bay.
His burgeoning club success helped him cement his place in the Under 19s selectors’ plans, with him impressing in trials before making it to the final touring squad that made history in Italy last September.
“During the rigorous six-game qualification day, he was a virtual ever-present, impressing teammates and staff with his work ethic, contagious personality, and quick wit,” his squad noted.
Logan was instrumental in England winning the Under-19 European Championship in 2022. He was outstanding in the semi-final and final as the Lions defeated Wales before defeating France in dramatic and emotional scenes.
“A wonderful young man and teammate, he leaves a lasting legacy on the program and staff,” the squad remembered.
An online campaign has been set up to assist Logan’s family. The GoFundMe campaign has raised more than £15,870.
