UCONN basketball coach Dan Hurley has stated that Jordan Hawkins’ health issue is not related to COVID-19 or any other serious health condition.

On Thursday night, Hawkins experienced symptoms of a stomach bug and was separated from his roommate to prevent any possible spread of the infection.

Jordan Hawkins is currently under observation by the medical staff, as confirmed by his coach Dan Hurley. However, Hurley also stated that Hawkins is feeling better and hopes to return to practice soon.

Hawkins, a highly-regarded recruit, joined UCONN this season. Standing at 6’5″, he is a skilled shooter capable of playing in multiple positions. In the 15.8 minutes per game he has played, he has averaged 6.3 points and 2.3 rebounds, with an impressive 40.7% three-point shooting accuracy. Hawkins has also shown his athleticism and defensive potential in some instances.

The Huskies, currently ranked No. 20 in the nation with a record of 10-3, anticipate Hawkins to be a significant contributor to the team’s success.

Jordan Hawkins has made a remarkable recovery, participating in Saturday’s pregame shoot-around and hitting a 3-pointer in the first possession of UConn’s Final Four game against Miami.

In the game, he played for 25 minutes, scoring 13 points, including three 3-pointers, contributing significantly to UConn’s 72-59 victory over the Hurricanes. Despite feeling terrible on Friday, Hawkins felt better as the game progressed and was confident that he would play.

Regarding his illness, Hawkins was unsure whether he had food poisoning or had caught a bug, but he attributed his illness to the calamari dinner he had on Thursday night.

This is UConn’s sixth appearance in the Final Four and their first since 2014 when they won their fourth championship under coach Kevin Ollie. Under coach Dan Hurley, who took over in 2018, the Huskies have restored their reputation as a powerhouse program after missing the tournament for four consecutive years.

Hawkins has shown resilience and determination, overcoming adversity and illness to lead his team to the brink of glory. He is now healthy and ready to make history.

Jordan Hawkins was born in Gaithersburg, Maryland on June 12, 2003. His parents, Jasmine and Craig Hawkins, have been his biggest supporters and encouraged him to pursue his dreams.

Jordan has a family consisting of two older sisters named Alexis and Chynna, as well as a younger sister named Paris. However, there is not much information available about his family as he prefers to keep his personal life private.

For his freshman year of high school, Jordan attended Gaithersburg High School where he averaged 18 points per game and was honored with All-Met honors. He then transferred to DeMatha Catholic High School, one of the most prestigious basketball programs in the United States.

Under the guidance of legendary coach Mike Jones and playing alongside other top prospects, he helped DeMatha win two WCAC titles and a national championship during his junior year. Jordan also participated in various showcases and camps, including the Pangos All-American Camp and the NBPA Top 100 Camp.
