More Details About Sona Jobarteh’s Music Career
When she was four years old, she performed at her first concert at the Jazz Café in London. In her early years, she also performed at a number of events.
She participated in several orchestral projects when she was a music student, including “River of Sound” with the Irish Chamber Orchestra and Evelyn Glennie. On previous projects, she collaborated with the Viva Chamber Orchestra, Milton Keynes City Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and others.
She played in Vienna in 2002 alongside renowned jazz vocalist Cleveland Watkiss. She also participated in his performance at the Barbican in London, where he served as Cassandra Wilson’s opener. Jools Holland later heard that she was a part of Damon Albarn’s Mali Music Project.
Her debut album, Afro-Acoustic Soul, had songs on social issues and love. This CD has several tracks that may be broadcast on more established radio stations in Europe. The next was Fasiya (2011). On Ballake Sissoko’s 2021 album Djourou, she makes a cameo appearance.
