Who Started TikTok’s Blackout Challenge?

This is also known as the pass-out challenge and the choking game.

The Black Out challenge requires participants to record themselves strangling themselves with things closer to them, with a time limit of 10 seconds.

To put it simply, this fad encourages people to choke themselves with belts, ropes, or other constricting materials until they pass out (out of breath).

On April 7, a mother discovered her toddler unconscious with a ligature wrapped around his head.

This resulted in the youngster suffering a traumatic brain injury after engaging in a “blackout challenge,” which resulted in brain death.

 

TikTok Blackout Challenge Lawsuits Filed By Parents

On the matter of The Blackout Challenge, the victims and deceased children’s parents have filed a lawsuit against the TikTok app owners.

Lauryn Keating, the mother of 14-year-old Leon Brown, reportedly stated that her son died as a result of this challenge, murdering Archie.

She also revealed that her son assumed he would be the first to try it.

This is not the first time the so-called Blackout challenge has claimed the life of a child. Arriani Arroyo, nine years old, died in February 2021 after taking the same TikTok challenge.

As a result, people are becoming more aware of the harmful impact of this popular video-sharing platform. After their daughter died as a result of such harsh challenges, the Arroyo family filed a lawsuit against TikTok.

Two months ago, the families of two young girls in the United States filed a lawsuit against TikTok, saying that the hosting service’s ‘dangerous’ algorithms killed their children.

The TikTok app has stated that videos of the ‘Blackout Challenge’ have been removed. They also allegedly took the required precautions, preventing consumers from searching for the trend. Some also claim that TikTok isn’t doing enough to combat the “Blackout Challenge.”

What Makes The Blackout Challenge So Perilous?

The Blackout Challenge is extremely dangerous since it is claiming lives.

In brief, the tendency has resulted in the recent death of 12-year-old Archie Battersbee (due to catastrophic brain damage) as well as the deaths of Lalani Erika Walton, eight, and Arriani Jaileen Arroyo, nine.

This has also moved most parents’ attention to their children’s social media lives and what crazy life-risking challenges the youngsters are doing for ‘likes.’

Similarly, a distraught mother revealed that her 14-year-old son Leon Brown died while undertaking a dangerous TikTok choking challenge. He was discovered motionless after attempting the same risky TikTok trend as Archie Battersbee.

One of the victims’ parents further stated that the people (adults) who are participating in these challenges are sick and repulsive.
