Harms worked as a weather reporter and predicted school closings for WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids while in college. He was interviewed by the Grand Rapids Press and appeared on WOOD TV8, 91.3 WCSG, WOTV 4, WZZM 13, and FOX 17 due to his enthusiasm for weather and school shutdown forecasts.
